Celebrate National Quesadilla Day at Poquito Mas in Buena Park
09.23.22
At Poquito Mas—translation: a little more—National Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t limited to just September. That’s because this popular taqueria celebrates the foods of Mexico every day of the year with its menu of authentic tacos, burritos, tostadas, and more.
Poquito Mas will celebrate National Quesadilla Day on Sunday, September 25, by offering a choice of four quesadillas all featuring Jack and cheddar cheeses with mild green chilies and a hint of green onion all perfectly blended inside a grilled flour tortilla with a generous scoop of fresh-made guacamole. Choices include classic cheese, chicken, steak or pork priced from $8.95 to $11.95.
The history of the quesadilla, which means “little cheesy thing,” varies. Some say the earliest form is mentioned in 16th-century Italian cookbooks and is described as a fried Pop Tart or empanada. According to legend, these portable snacks evolved when the Spanish conquistadors arrived in Mexico substituting wheat in the dough for corn masa.
Poquita Mas makes all its tortillas on-site using its own patented tortilla press. The corn tortillas are made using the restaurant’s own trademark masa, sold onsite, while the flour tortillas are made on the premises using fresh dough. Nothing is ever frozen, from the wild shrimp and cuts of meat to the produce. Flights of various salsas are also made throughout the day along with ice-cold agua fresca. The restaurant offers wine, craft beer on tap, and cocktails.
In addition to its quartet of quesadillas, signature items include the Shrimp Burrito San Lucas™ made with pan-seared wild-caught Pacific shrimp, ahi tuna taco with line-caught ahi and the Classic Steak Burrito made with all-natural USDA Angus beef. Other items include petite-size burritos, tostadas and vegetarian options as well as house-made guacamole. Despite the rise in inflation, Poquito Mas has kept its pre-pandemic prices with everything on the menu under $13.
Poquito Mas is located at 6591 Beach Blvd. in Buena Park, just north of Knotts Berry Farm between the 91 and 5 Freeways, with additional locations located throughout the San Fernando Valley.
The restaurant is currently open Wednesday-Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., until 8 p.m. on Sunday, for dine-in, take-out, and delivery.
